We Should Listen

It’s a well known fact that

bodies cannot lie.

We can lie with words

but we cannot force

a convincing smile

and we cannot hide

eyes filled with passion.

We can say we’re doing great

but humped shoulders

and tightly gripped fists

will always reveal our state of mind.

And when our bodies say no

when they deny what our minds tell them to do

then we should listen

our bodies might be trying to tell us something

like that we’re too old, or too tired, or too scared.

And since our bodies aren’t worried

about doing things that are reassuring

to the lifestyle we chose for ourselves

then we should listen.

Because our bodies don’t

get crazy ideas, become sidetracked or get bullied.

They don’t want to

impress anyone, look pretty or leave a legacy.

And if we listen and respect, well, maybe then

we can figure out what

is making us old, tired or scared

and fight at the root, with all our weapons and arms.

  2. Va, I need to do this. The "Listening to the body" concept was never so clear. Of course my body doesn´t care. Whatever made me think it should? It has its own very noble agenda. Nevertheless one likes to think one has some sort of power!
