Give It A Rest

Sometimes, too often probably,
I stop and reflect on my life
and one of the things I think
is that I take my life too seriously.

We only live once, so
shouldn't we have fun?
Shouldn't our goal be
to make the most of it?

But there are times when
I just can't let go, can't have fun
I take my responsibilities
way too seriously and get
way too frustrated when
they don't work out right.

It would be wrong to
advise you to have fun
fun needs to be tempered
with responsibility
and serious goals
otherwise society becomes
one big carnival.

Or so I've been told.

So, take your responsibilities
seriously but, if you can, then
have some fun while you're at it.

Ask Yourself

Sometimes we get frustrated
or mad and impatient or bored
and want to do some damage
to have physical proof of our
complete total worthlessness.

Ask yourself this:
Are you not overgeneralizing?
Are you not great in other ways?
Is the situation not just temporary?

Step back, put things in perspective
you'll see, it is a puzzle that will
come together from a distance.

What love is

Some people are just great for you
they make you smile through pain
and make you laugh out loud
making you  feel comfortable
being simply who you are.

They look out for you and respect you
and make sure others respect you too
and they do little things to improve your day
like listening to your stories and giving you advice
or just a shoulder to cry on or a reason to laugh.
They let you know they care by showing affection
and gently challenging you to be your best,
with a letter, a comment, a friendly smile.

I like those people.
I like having them in my life.

A Human Being, Not a Human Having

There is a balance
that keeps me steadily grounded
and able to fly at the same time.

It is a combination of both work and study,
with reasonable recognition and prospects for reward.

It is to have time for family and time for friends -
a time just for hugging, laughing and talking.

It is a proper diet - without too much sugar or salt -
and regular exercise indoors and outside.

It also includes hobbies, time for fun and dancing,
but also time for reflection and writing.

It is living in the city and it is being able to
travel to the country - or vice-versa.

It is when I consume little, unleash my creativity,
and give of myself to others.

It is being in love, being loved, loving back.
No matter where or how, why or when, just who.

Life is Rife

Have you ever thought about how
our bodies imitate the things around it?

How our organs are sealed by our skin
just like the Earth is sealed by the atmosphere?

How our fingers bleed through cuts
just like liquids seeping out of a broken can?

How our voice show our feelings,
just like the sound of wind reveals its mood?

How our bodies wake and sleep according to the Earth’s rotation,
just like the tides that go in and out from the ocean?

Unadorned

All the games which we chose to engage in
are merely for occupation and validation,
we've moved way beyond basic survival.
A sense of humour seems the only true religion
because there is no meaning, no higher calling,
we are just an accident, living meaninglessly,
attaching ourselves to things carelessly
as we watch time go by.

Life is not much more than an experiment.

So why not just enjoy it? Live it up,
revel in it, smell it, grab it, release it.
