Smiling

To know

To know you are loved

makes you responsible.

To know you are trusted

makes you grow wiser.

To know you are respected

makes you act worthy. 

To know your limits

makes you feel safe.

To know not any fear

makes you able to fly. 

Beliefs are the strongest link

I love the buzz of airports.

People are there to fly

and I enjoy observing them

and wondering why on Earth

they would put themselves

through all of this torture?

This is my conclusion:

Because they believe.

Not in religion, not necessarily,

but in something

like that they need to fly

to see a client or a friend

or to visit a new place

or go back to an old place.

They believe they need

to do this or do that

in order to be happy

in order to be successful

in order to find approval

in order to find redemption

or to get rest and relaxation.

I wonder what would happen

if we all stopped believing

and stayed home instead,

if we lost our motivation

because we no longer believed

any of it mattered or anyone cared.

Is It Worth It?

To be accepted

people go to any length

they might 

change their nose

or else

drink until they fade  

others

just make jokes

some 

manipulate the truth

and others

hide behind a mask.

But is it

worth it? 

In favor of the arts and conversation

We can only see 

through our own eyes

until someone makes it

so that their view 

becomes part of another's

and that way the world 

unites and diversity 

becomes a complex

homogeneity or even

possibly, maybe, perhaps

a place without fear

and without unknowns. 

All something can be

I've been wondering lately how 

a business can best draw attention

and spur it's own growth and

the answer I've come up with

comes from the human experience:

having parents who nurture us

until we can fend for ourselves

and realize all we can do

is be our best, stick to our guts,

be genuinely interested in others

work hard and work consistently

without over-stretching our limits.

Take care of ourselves and our stuff

be responsible and responsive and

know that if we cause a stir, we'll 

then become mostly known for that. 

So a business should be all it can be,

the word will get around if it's

just patient and smart and true. 

A Reflection on Conflict Resolution

Conflict lies in people's heads, not in objective reality. 

People tend to assume that whatever they fear, 

the other side intends to do. 

Blaming someone for a conflict locks both parties into a position.

Being locked into a position leaves no room for legitimate discussion.

People locked into a position can only attack the other's position.

Under attack, people become defensive, cease to listen and strike back. 

Seeing the reality as each side sees it opens the way to a solution.

A solution is only possible when merits and interests, rather than positions, are discussed.

Talk is Cheap

Thoughts are meek,
sometimes even weak.
Talk is cheap, 

Hardly worth its keep.

But action: well,
that's got traction! 

The Hand

"Reach, reach," he said.
"My hand is out to you,
but you have to reach it."

So she stretched,
and barely slept
all her life long
but the hand remained
always just out of reach
and she did not notice
the simple beauty of life,
that which she was ignoring.

Others were watching
and feeling disappointed
and the hand, the hand,
was moving only from
plate to mouth.
